Blogging with Eskimos
‘Here I am, pen frozen in hand, trying to write letters in a snowdrift. The last time I received any correspondence from home, the starving dogs outside my tent had eaten the last of my salt tack. Life gets harder. I’ve used up the last of my flares. The blackness of the night sky was lit up temporarily, and as these missiles died, so did the last of my hope. If I’m still alive tomorrow, I’ll brave the storm and head back for civilisation. Otherwise, it’s obscurity and death.’
The above extract was taken from the seminal work ‘The Death of a Blogger’ by A R Dickson. After posting religiously for forty six years and receiving only five comments, Dickson set out for Antartica to spend his final years blogging with Eskimos.
